Flávio Terra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Isidoro Sarmiento in the 10th minute of the match. The supporters of Panama booed when SC Conceição was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Florentino Cedro didn't get a good kick on the ball. 29 minutes into the match, Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Nevares. Isidoro Sarmiento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 45th minute, Tomas Berganza ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Flávio Terra was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. After the first half Panama were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
