Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ildefonso Piarres to make the kick off. Ildefonso Piarres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquin Gayoso having to interfere. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Camilo Covarrubias hit a great ball. If Boruc Spychalski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Joaquin Gayoso had in the 86thth minute some difficulties stopping José Liamthaisong's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 89 minutes into the match, Juventus Telford's goalkeeper Luizinho Paranaense had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernando Zorita. Uruguay's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
