An unexpectedly hard shot by Eusebius Smolarek in the 28th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manchester United FC's Ed 冯义升 was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After a rather tough play, Manchester United FC's Naycho Mollov got a free kick in the 38th minute. 40 minutes into the match, Manchester United FC's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Dietbald Ströbele reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dietbald Ströbele made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 43rd minute of play. Manchester United FC's Dietbald Ströbele played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Andino in the 47th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Dietbald Ströbele in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dietbald Ströbele having to interfere. With a little luck, Manchester United FC's Dietbald Ströbele got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Dietbald Ströbele firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 67th minute, Cristian Sancho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 70th minute. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eusebius Smolarek in the 71st minute of the match. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ed 冯义升, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Junior Shevchenko in the 75th minute of play. Dietbald Ströbele made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 78th minute. A collision led to Manchester United FC getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Naycho Mollov hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice moves Cristian Sancho could shoot a difficult shot in the 84th minute, which Dietbald Ströbele however easily saved by the left post. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eusebius Smolarek, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
