But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Youri Djorkaeff couldn't finish the play. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Danny Pasquier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Avel Vat getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Bilal Moutte hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Lilian Thuram managed to get in a good position for a shot. Avel Vat's supporters rose to their feet, but Lilian Thuram was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 34thth minute of the game Youri Djorkaeff who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sébastien Milliot during the 35th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Danny Pasquier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patricio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Youri Djorkaeff's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. Youri Djorkaeff scored 1-0 in the 78th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lilian Thuram in the 83rd minute of the match. In the 89th match minute, Avel Vat was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edmond Kubiak to maneuver through the defense. In the 90th minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 91 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Youri Djorkaeff came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Avel Vat booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Avel Vat fans cheered their team off the field, for while Venezuela had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
