In the 17th minute of the match Memphis Grizzlies got a corner. 卡納里尼奧 FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Dave Fleming ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that José Luis Cuciuffo got away a dangerous shot. Despite this João Vítor Guimarães quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the match clock showed 17 minutes, the score became 0-1 when José Luis Cuciuffo sped through 卡納里尼奧 FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of João Vítor Guimarães. João Vítor Guimarães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Franky Van Der Elst, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. 24 minutes had been played when some careless play by 卡納里尼奧 FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sidnei Dionísio couldn't finish the play. Gez Winship made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Elias Damasceno sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Memphis Grizzlies getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Garry Nancy hit a great ball. 39 minutes into the match, Memphis Grizzlies's goalkeeper Gez Winship had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Elias Damasceno. In the 41st minute José Luis Cuciuffo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Vítor Guimarães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 45th minute, 卡納里尼奧 FC's Elias Damasceno dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Elias Damasceno was the one to do the kick off. Gez Winship showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseu Alagoano, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Sidnei Dionísio's late challenge caught a Memphis Grizzlies's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sidnei Dionísio helped the player get up and apologised. 卡納里尼奧 FC made a substitution. Severino da Cunha replaced Sidnei Dionísio. After a rather tough play, Memphis Grizzlies's Michael Kellaway got a free kick in the 63rd minute.
