The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Eliseo Noboa a yellow card for diving instead. Eliseo Noboa hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. When Válbson Rocha came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Jaru-Uaru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Válbson Rocha couldn't finish the play. Válbson Rocha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Eliseo Noboa might have been able to make a better finish in the 59th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luiz Fabiano Corrêa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Noboa ran back to his position shaking his head. Luiz Fabiano Corrêa made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Axel Tasis sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Tasis in the 66th minute of play forced Jaru-Uaru's goalkeeper Luiz Fabiano Corrêa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Jaru-Uaru booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball.
