In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that 徐鹏庭 was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gary Lineker's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. In the 89th minute, Gary Lineker got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 徐鹏庭, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. 96 minutes into the game, Gary Lineker cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
