After some careless play in the Vancouver Reds defense, Luis Andino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Omar Duardo. The Vancouver Reds fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Omar Duardo should have stopped the shot. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. In the 16th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Omar Duardo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 19th minute to try and stop a shot by Vancouver Reds's Rodrigo Ferdinand. But to his dismay, Rodrigo Ferdinand quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. If Cameron Leary had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rodrigo Ferdinand might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rodrigo Ferdinand ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 28th minute Rodrigo Ferdinand shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Eugène Jetté came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Vancouver Reds fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eugène Jetté couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Omar Duardo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Agustín Saelices came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agustín Saelices couldn't finish the play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Omar Duardo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Omar Duardo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Montenegro got free with Omar Duardo in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 54 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Agustín Saelices. The supporters of Vancouver Reds booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. 67 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Rodrigo Ferdinand came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 68th minute, Rodrigo Ferdinand ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Róbson Queirós managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vancouver Reds's supporters rose to their feet, but Róbson Queirós was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Omar Duardo having to interfere. Olin Munster charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Olin Munster the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 89th minute, Olin Munster hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 90th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Omar Duardo but with some difficulty. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
