The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Bucaneiros's Bartosz Skikiewicz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 11th minute of play. Bucaneiros's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. 46 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Laércio Travassos came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ahmet Reha Zeren hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. Daniel Zorita took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Bartosz Skikiewicz. Bucaneiros's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Mai Hontoria made the kick off in the second half. The crowd rose to their feet as Daniel Zorita kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Bartosz Skikiewicz. That made the score 1-2 in the 50 minute of play. Mai Hontoria scored 2-2 in the 55th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Bucaneiros made a substitution. Mario Kempes replaced Mai Hontoria. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laércio Travassos in the 61st minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bartosz Skikiewicz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Daniel Zorita showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-4. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 83rd minute. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 87thth minute tested the skills of Bartosz Skikiewicz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Felix Montenegro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Bartosz Skikiewicz made a huge save. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernest Spoelbergs in the 89th minute of play. After 91 played minutes Bucaneiros got a freekick which was hit by Aaron Mikelats. Bartosz Skikiewicz made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
