With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rolando Noboa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Peru's attentive Anthony Alvarado managed to snatch the ball when Ryszard Prusinowski made a throw-in in the 17th minute of the game. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind C. A. Independiente's goalkeeper Farid Mondragón, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 26th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Farid Mondragón saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, C. A. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Julian Murillo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 52nd minute of play.
