With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Petrică Cândreanu tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 24th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Baldomiro Txindoki showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agustín Saelices in the 26th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 28 minutes, Iulian Pietreanu took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Baldomiro Txindoki having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Baldomiro Txindoki breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Agustín Saelices had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 43rd minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baldomiro Txindoki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Baldomiro Txindoki came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Felix Montenegro. But to his dismay, Felix Montenegro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Baldomiro Txindoki showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 46th minute of the match. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wilson Arósio in the 57th minute of play. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Petrică Cândreanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Petrică Cândreanu scored 2-2 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Baldomiro Txindoki took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to FC UNIREA Alba Iulia getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Nicolae Ungureanu hit a great ball. Petrică Cândreanu kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 80thth minute tested the skills of Baldomiro Txindoki when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 82nd minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baldomiro Txindoki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Baldomiro Txindoki was out of position in the 85 minute of play, and Cristian Sancho capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Cristian Sancho really showed his touch with that goal: 2-3. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Antonio Arias hit a great ball. Wilson Arósio succeeded in the game's 92nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 3-3. Baldomiro Txindoki made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 96th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
