Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 45th minute, when Carl Kalfhage sent off a good shot on target. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. A collision led to INIXET BK getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Carl Kalfhage hit a great ball. Sören Gregersson took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. 59 minutes into the match, INIXET BK's goalkeeper Kent Näver had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. The supporters of INIXET BK booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Felix Montes got the opportunity to take care of a free kick it resulted in a really dangerous shot that almost went in the goal. Instead the ball went too high, a missed opportunity for Ecuador. Björn Pihlgren fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Kent Näver in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carl Kalfhage in the 67th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Carl Kalfhage's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 72nd minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Peder Alström stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Peder Alström tried to chip the ball over his head. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
