Eugenio Bartolomucci took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cacciola's Eugenio Bartolomucci played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 9th minute of play. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Armando Toppi tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Nunez Hernando fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cacciola's protests and gave Nunez Hernando a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Cacciola getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Nunez Hernando hit a great ball. If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Eugenio Bartolomucci showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agustín Saelices in the 35th minute of the match. Ecuador's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Armando Toppi 41 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-1. Eugenio Bartolomucci made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 45th minute of play. Armando Toppi came free with the goalkeeper in the 46th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Julio Vera could save by the left post.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Federico Frabetti was the one to do the kick off. In the 62nd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agustín Saelices to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Eugenio Bartolomucci in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eugenio Bartolomucci having to interfere. After having played for 93 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Luis Andino came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luis Andino couldn't finish the play. The Cacciola support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
