Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Örjan Forssell could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Petru Nisporeanu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. When the match clock showed 24 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Örjan Forssell sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. Petru Nisporeanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 27th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Petru Nisporeanu having to interfere. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Liu Yan Yan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Örjan Forssell, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Petru Nisporeanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 46th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Felix Montes charged in rather forcefully in the 50th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Felix Montes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Felix Montes hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. 51 minutes into the match, Deportivo Peñarol FIFV's Liu Yan Yan broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Örjan Forssell in the 54th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Juan Sebastián Puig was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. A well-hit corner resulted in Felix Montenegro heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Quinton Isern in the 82nd minute of play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Deportivo Peñarol FIFV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Quinton Isern didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Örjan Forssell in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind.
