Eulalio Callejas hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Ballet Azul's René Puente slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Joaquin Gayoso. That made the score 1-0 after 8 minutes of play. In the 10thth minute of the game René Puente who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When René Puente came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Ballet Azul fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that René Puente couldn't finish the play. René Puente who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 18thth minute tested the skills of Joaquin Gayoso when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 20 minutes into the game, Uruguay's Camilo Franco nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. José Luis Chilavert made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. The supporters of Ballet Azul booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kevin Carballal didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Pepe Rojas came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Ballet Azul fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pepe Rojas couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Esequiel Dohrmann during the 28th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. It was Jaime Cazalla who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Francisco Seco almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ballet Azul's José Luis Chilavert did a great save. When Ballet Azul's René Puente in the 33rd minute got a chance for a shot 33rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Uruguay's goalie prevented a goal. When Francisco Seco came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Uruguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francisco Seco couldn't finish the play. René Puente struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Joaquin Gayoso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ballet Azul. Ballet Azul's José Luis Chilavert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Seco in the 37th minute of play. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eulalio Callejas in the 56th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers René Puente in the 59th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joaquin Gayoso saved Uruguay from getting behind. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Kevin Carballal hit a great ball. 62 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when René Puente came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling René Puente in the 64th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Joaquin Gayoso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Ballet Azul booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maximiliano Escribano in the 73rd minute of play forced Ballet Azul's goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 80th minute René Puente shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquin Gayoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by René Puente in the 81st minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Esequiel Dohrmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 93rd minute, Bruno Beldad hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by René Puente in the 94th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, Ballet Azul could leave the field as winners, despite Uruguay having more of the ball for most of the match.
