Nery Pumpido showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luca Zorita in the 8th minute of the match. William Villanueva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dante Lacasa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves William Villanueva could shoot a difficult shot in the 10th minute, which Dante Lacasa however easily saved by the left post. Nery Pumpido didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alberto Tafalla went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Facundo Cadaval, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 22nd minute of play. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 35th minute of play forced GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 36th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 41 played minutes GuateFortín got a freekick which was hit by Fabio Huezo. The supporters of GuateFortín booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joel Gaona didn't get a good kick on the ball.

Joel Gaona was slow to take the kick. During this time Mexico's players had a chance to rest. Nery Pumpido made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Lautaro Mancebo sent off a good shot on target. 88 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lautaro Mancebo. In the 90th minute of the game Leonardo Leoz made a throw-in which Lautaro Mancebo played forward. Zico Zellier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 94th minute, Leonardo Leoz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 95 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Tafalla came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mexico's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
