Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Guilherme Garcia in the 8th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Guilherme Garcia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Celsinho Messias tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zé Paulo Ramos in the 15th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Guilherme Garcia took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Benito Sanz to make any attempt to save it. In the 20th minute, Guilherme Garcia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Guilherme Garcia made a kick off. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Habilirows was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ergincan Arslantürk didn't get a good kick on the ball. Habilirows's Edgar Grönlund proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 56th minute of the match, managed to save Habilirows from getting a goal against them. After 57 minutes Habilirows's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Axel Tasis who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Axel Tasis almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Habilirows's Edgar Grönlund did a great save. In the 61st minute, Lúcio Simão got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 65 minutes into the game, Eliseo Noboa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Habilirows the free kick. In the 74th minute Habilirows were awarded a corner. Celsinho Messias went to the cornerflag to take it. If Lúcio Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juan Rubio during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Celsinho Messias took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-0. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Habilirows was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guilherme Garcia didn't get a good kick on the ball.
