When the match clock showed 26 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Demy Salens sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Illescas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Henk-Jan Appel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sébastien Haller fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Demy Salens tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when Demy Salens sent off a good shot on target. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sébastien Haller stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Demy Salens in the 51st minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Boca Gregorian Juniors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johannes Boon didn't get a good kick on the ball. Henk-Jan Appel acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 54th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Tomas Illescas. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Boca Gregorian Juniors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. A.J. Reitsma didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sébastien Haller, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
