An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Berganza in the 12th minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leonardo Donato in the 16th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lex De Prins kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Panama's zone, Leonardo Donato stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcos Cotilla came out of the goal and Leonardo Donato tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marcos Cotilla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leonardo Donato in the 20th minute of play. In the 21st minute Palmeiras were awarded a corner. Tarcisio Reis went to the cornerflag to take it. After 24 played minutes Panama got a freekick which was hit by Alex Cambeiro. After a rather tough play, Panama's Alex Cambeiro got a free kick in the 28th minute. In the 28th minute, Dylan Sarmiento hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 29th minute of the match Tarcisio Reis sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marcos Cotilla skillfully saved the ball. Marcos Cotilla made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Tarcisio Reis sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tarcisio Reis got free with Marcos Cotilla in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Marcos Cotilla was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 37th match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tomas Berganza to maneuver through the defense. In the 39th minute Isidoro Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Régis de Queirós saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 40 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Kléberson Neiva came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 40 minutes, Felipe Ros mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Panama and the Palmeiras players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Felipe Ros hit a great ball. In the 45th match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leonardo Donato to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Carlos Simões in the 78th minute of play. Lex De Prins's late challenge caught a Panama's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lex De Prins helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Lex De Prins got a free kick in the 83rd minute. Régis de Queirós showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Isidoro Sarmiento in the 84th minute of the match. Isidoro Sarmiento took the ball and in the 84 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Régis de Queirós. Régis de Queirós dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Estefania Rasgado succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 3-2 in the 90th playminute. Marcos Cotilla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonardo Donato in the 94th minute of the match. After having played for 95 minutes, Estefania Rasgado managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Estefania Rasgado was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Panama's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
