In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 18th minute of play forced Merengue FC's goalkeeper Bayan Gugovski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Aquiles Urtsin hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 26th minute after Merengue FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Ecuador's Agustín Saelices was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bayan Gugovski in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 27th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. 40 minutes into the match, Merengue FC's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Bayan Gugovski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 41st minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Darwin Núñez tried to sneak it across the goal line.

After 53 minutes Merengue FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Merengue FC's Bayan Gugovski managed to reach the ball for a save. The crowd rose to their feet as Ecuador's Daniel Zorita slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Bayan Gugovski. That made the score 0-1 after 55 minutes of play. Bayan Gugovski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 59th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cristian Sancho the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 68 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Darwin Núñez came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A nice corner shot did that Ediberto Sampaio got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aquiles Urtsin in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Darwin Núñez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Merengue FC made a substitution. Everardo Nerio replaced Raimundo Gonsalvo. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 81st minute of the match, but Bayan Gugovski made a huge save. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 82th minute after Merengue FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The corner led Ecuador's Cristian Sancho to fire away a dangerous shot which Bayan Gugovski despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Ediberto Sampaio kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Ecuador's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
