Spectators: 41 (Terracing: 32, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Cristian Naike started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. In the 3rd minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Elpidio Vitin was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Elpidio Vitin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. After 9 played minutes Vélez Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Santos Fonda. The corner ended in Guido Luzaide almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Elpidio Vitin having to make a save. Elpidio Vitin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nicolas Roland went, in the 22nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. 27 minutes into the match, Vélez Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Elpidio Vitin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vélez Juniors's Nicolas Roland got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Nicolas Roland sent off a good shot on target. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Nicolas Roland tried to sneak it across the goal line. Elpidio Vitin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 44th minute of the match. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 45th minute. The corner led to Ecuador's Antonio Arias getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Nicolas Roland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Vélez Juniors from getting a goal against them. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 60 minutes, Nicolas Roland managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vélez Juniors's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nicolas Roland was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Guido Luzaide kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. 74 minutes into the game, Cristian Naike cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-1. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 78th minute of the match, managed to save Vélez Juniors from getting a goal against them. After 79 minutes of play, Vélez Juniors's Cristian Naike made it 5-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nicolas Roland in the 89th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Elpidio Vitin in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Vélez Juniors were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
