Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Rolando Sidro made the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor Hug in the 50th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Gaudencio Gervaso in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rolando Sidro might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rolando Sidro ran back to his position shaking his head. After 95 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
