Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Axel Tasis took the kick off in the first half of the match. If Delfim Paraense had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Abel Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. Claudio-Paul Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Tasis in the 11th minute of the match. After 12 minutes Inter de Melão's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Axel Tasis who took care of the corner kick. Costa Rica's Axel Tasis was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Claudio-Paul Taffarel in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Eliseo Noboa in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Claudio-Paul Taffarel saved Inter de Melão from getting behind. Delfim Paraense shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Klaus Meine kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. A collision led to Inter de Melão getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Dráuzio Mesquita hit a great ball. When Eliseo Noboa came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eliseo Noboa couldn't finish the play. Juan Rubio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Fabinho Valladares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 38 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tobias Zachrisson. 43 minutes into the match, Delfim Paraense dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Benito Sanz, 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Delfim Paraense to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Falcão Dias in the 52nd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Delfim Paraense, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. When Dráuzio Mesquita fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Inter de Melão's protests and gave Dráuzio Mesquita a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Inter de Melão getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Dráuzio Mesquita hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Inter de Melão's Maurinho Vergílio got a free kick in the 58th minute. Axel Tasis was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 59th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Efrain Moruga got a free kick in the 60th minute. Dráuzio Mesquita kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Claudio-Paul Taffarel. That made the score 1-2 after 63 minutes of play. 68 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Delfim Paraense came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 69th minute Fabinho Valladares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Inter de Melão was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Klaus Meine didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 70 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Lautaro Puig. Alan Moruga kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa got a free kick in the 75th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Delfim Paraense in the 77th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Delfim Paraense, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 79th minute, Delfim Paraense ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Fabinho Valladares kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. 88 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Tobias Zachrisson came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alexander Carballo charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alexander Carballo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 89th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alexander Carballo to maneuver through the defense. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Delfim Paraense, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tobias Zachrisson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
