The supporters of Blackjacks booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sven Börger didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Sören Stolpe managed to get in a good position for a shot. Blackjacks's supporters rose to their feet, but Sören Stolpe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ratko Gingold breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Rune Odeen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mauro Baumgarten in the 39th minute of play forced Blackjacks's goalkeeper Sverker Sjöö to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
