Roman Thommes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Slawomir Plaski, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. If Norbert Poremba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jan Mielak made a kick off. FC Hamburg's supporters rose to their feet, but Ralph Breddermann was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ulryk Gacek breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The shot was stopped by Roman Thommes but with some difficulty. FC Hamburg's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
