When Calistrat Şerbănescu came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Calistrat Şerbănescu couldn't finish the play. Tiberiu Rotariu hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca were furious when Aristide Fetea was red carded, 16 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mircea Jupân in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arne Petersson saved Galapagos Islands FC from getting behind. 24 minutes into the game, Golo Phoenix cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Arne Petersson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 27 minutes into the game, Galapagos Islands FC's Karl-Magnus Fristedt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dacian Ghițescu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Dacian Ghițescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emanuel Sandberg in the 33rd minute of play. Tiberiu Rotariu kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Karl-Magnus Fristedt in the 36th minute of play forced PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's goalkeeper Dacian Ghițescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Galapagos Islands FC's zone, Golo Phoenix stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arne Petersson came out of the goal and Golo Phoenix tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Arne Petersson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mircea Jupân, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Arne Petersson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Golo Phoenix in the 43rd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Golo Phoenix's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Arne Petersson was relentless in the 46th minute of the game.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Karl-Magnus Fristedt stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Galapagos Islands FC's Arne Petersson got control of the ball when Mircea Jupân tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 59th match minute, PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucian Şimonca to maneuver through the defense. In the 60th minute of the match Östen Ahlrot sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dacian Ghițescu skillfully saved the ball. After 67 played minutes PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Virgil Jupân. In the 71st minute, Lucian Şimonca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dacian Ghițescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emanuel Sandberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. After 77 minutes, Golo Phoenix mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca and the Galapagos Islands FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 77 played minutes PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Golo Phoenix. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Calistrat Şerbănescu during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Galapagos Islands FC booed when PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Calistrat Şerbănescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dacian Ghițescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torbjörn Stålberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Mircea Jupân had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
