With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomás Cerqueira in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Valery Gurinovich saved FORTALEZA from getting behind. If Tomás Cerqueira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to FORTALEZA getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Oleg Razmyslovich hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, FORTALEZA's Juljan Shabanov got a free kick in the 41st minute. When the match clock showed 42 minutes, the score became 0-5 when Tomás Cerqueira sped through FORTALEZA's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Valery Gurinovich. Valery Gurinovich took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patrício Poças, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 48th minute, Patrício Poças made a precise shot to the right of Valery Gurinovich. FORTALEZA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-6. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-6 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Juljan Shabanov was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomás Cerqueira in the 59th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Valery Gurinovich prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 60 minutes into the match, FORTALEZA's goal looked a bit too open when Tomás Cerqueira came free, but Valery Gurinovich reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Patrício Poças fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valery Gurinovich having to interfere. With splendid footwork Patrício Poças arrived in front of goal to shoot 0-8 by the left pole in the game's 67th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Tomás Cerqueira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Garanhão do SUL's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomás Cerqueira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Valery Gurinovich breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of FORTALEZA booed when Garanhão do SUL was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomás Cerqueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 88th match minute, Garanhão do SUL was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sílvio Moutinho to maneuver through the defense. Boris Dorofeev received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Raimundo Delgado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Aristides Brochado hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. In the 99th minute the ball was on its way in behind Garanhão do SUL's goalkeeper Raimundo Delgado, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Garanhão do SUL eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
