Mariachi FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Kasey Gobey ran over to the corner to take the kick. Matthew Edwards made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eduard Bacarreza in the 11th minute of play. After 14 minutes, Benji Kay mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Atlético de Newell and the Mariachi FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Mariachi FC booed when Club Atlético de Newell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benji Kay didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eduard Bacarreza took the ball and in the 16 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Matthew Edwards. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernán Pereda during the 30th minute. Mariachi FC's Cristiano Gredig proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Mariachi FC from getting a goal against them. In the 43rd minute, Kasey Gobey got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alfred Barnfield received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Cristiano Gredig came out and tried to block the shot, but Alfred Barnfield slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 45th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alfred Barnfield to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ollie Bright in the 65th minute of play forced Mariachi FC's goalkeeper Cristiano Gredig to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 66th match minute, Mariachi FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fabricio Airola to maneuver through the defense. 68 minutes into the match, Kasey Gobey had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cristiano Gredig. Mariachi FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kasey Gobey was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Kasey Gobey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dom Mortlock took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 73rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Cristiano Gredig. Mariachi FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The audience was convinced that Ollie Bright's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cristiano Gredig was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. When Dom Mortlock came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Club Atlético de Newell fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dom Mortlock couldn't finish the play. Ollie Bright fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristiano Gredig having to interfere. In the 90th minute Kasey Gobey shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristiano Gredig saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cristiano Gredig made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ollie Bright in the 92nd minute of play. Club Atlético de Newell walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
