Ronan Conlon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Allan Ahlfors in the 11th minute of the match. 12 minutes into the match, Dennis Holmgren dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ronan Conlon, 1-0. In the 17th minute, Smiddy Celts's Jordan Hastings seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Jordan Hastings the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Smiddy Celts protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Jordan Hastings had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 17 played minutes Smiddy Celts got a freekick which was hit by Jordan Hastings. Ronan Conlon made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dennis Holmgren in the 20th minute. In the 21st minute, Jay Fleming hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Hartlepool booed when Smiddy Celts was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cameron McVeagh didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dennis Holmgren in the 35th minute of play forced Smiddy Celts's goalkeeper Ronan Conlon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ronan Conlon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Allan Ahlfors, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Ingvar Sundström took the ball and in the 47 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ronan Conlon. Ronan Conlon dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Allan Ahlfors to make the kick off. Tim Lindqvist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gordon Alderson in the 58th minute of the match. Smiddy Celts's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cameron McVeagh in the 62nd minute. The corner led Smiddy Celts's Cameron McVeagh to fire away a dangerous shot which Tim Lindqvist despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After a rather tough play, Smiddy Celts's Cameron McVeagh got a free kick in the 65th minute. Ronan Conlon didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Allan Ahlfors went, in the 67th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Gordon Alderson received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Tim Lindqvist came out and tried to block the shot, but Gordon Alderson slotted it home off the left post making it 4-1 in the 70th minute. In the 73rd minute Allan Ahlfors shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronan Conlon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tim Lindqvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gordon Alderson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gordon Aldersons short, quick shot in the 76thth minute got Tim Lindqvist to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After a rather tough play, Smiddy Celts's Ciaran McGill got a free kick in the 77th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Allan Ahlfors in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ronan Conlon saved Smiddy Celts from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Allan Ahlfors put it in 5-1 from a short distance just to the right of Ronan Conlon. Ciaran McGill blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tim Lindqvist having to make a save. Hartlepool's Tim Lindqvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gordon Alderson in the 88th minute of play. 89 minutes into the game, Allan Ahlfors cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-2. Ronan Conlon was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Dennis Holmgren hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Gordon Alderson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Tim Lindqvist made a huge save. A hard shot 96 in the game by Gordon Alderson from a close distance when the talented Tim Lindqvist managed to make a qualified save. Hartlepool's players were relieved.
