The Hemmersbacher SV fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Maurice Buttliger should have stopped the shot. Felipo Guerrero made an important save on a dangerous shot by Claude Massey in the 12th minute. Geofredo Benito received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Maurice Buttliger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 19 minutes into the match, Hemmersbacher SV's goal looked a bit too open when Virgilio Buendia came free, but Maurice Buttliger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Claude Massey to make the kick off. Archibaldo Coya hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Frasier Ehrler during the 69th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 70th minute of the match, Geofredo Benito tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Maurice Buttliger saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After 71 played minutes Hemmersbacher SV got a freekick which was hit by Silverio Desforges. The audience thought a goal was coming when Virgilio Buendia got free with Maurice Buttliger in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Salelles supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Salelles would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
