After 5 played minutes Descamisados CF got a freekick which was hit by Freddy Nerio. Gabriel França struck a weak shot in the 6th minute. Denis Lawrence didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for S.E.R. Caxias do Sul. 9 minutes into the match, Descamisados CF's goal looked a bit too open when Leopoldo Sanches came free, but Denis Lawrence reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gabriel França was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 12 minutes into the match. Gabriel França hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Caxias do Sul fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ladislao Mazurkiewicz couldn't finish the play. If Ladislao Mazurkiewicz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 30 minutes, Flávio Fonseca mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul and the Descamisados CF players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to S.E.R. Caxias do Sul getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Flávio Fonseca hit a great ball. The long shot by Hernán Diaz in the 31st minute really tested Gianluigi Donnarumma's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Denis Lawrence tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Denis Lawrence came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Joélson Paraibano. But to his dismay, Joélson Paraibano quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 45th match minute, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leopoldo Sanches to maneuver through the defense. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Vitinho Moreira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Lawrence having to interfere. 57 minutes into the game, Descamisados CF's Florencio Rivero nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Joélson Paraibano hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Descamisados CF made a substitution. Gogo Ler replaced Ruben Iturri. The supporters of Descamisados CF booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joélson Paraibano didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Ladislao Mazurkiewicz came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul fans jumped to their feet. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Denis Lawrence. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ladislao Mazurkiewicz ran back to his position shaking his head. After 77 played minutes Descamisados CF got a freekick which was hit by Gogo Ler. Denis Lawrence took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flávio Fonseca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Ladislao Mazurkiewicz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match was over S.E.R. Caxias do Sul could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Descamisados CF throughout the match.
