The Atlético Unión Florida fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fabricio Bitxintxo should have stopped the shot. 17 minutes into the match, Atlético Unión Florida's goal looked a bit too open when Damaso Sotil came free, but Fabricio Bitxintxo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Atlético Unión Florida's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. The referee ignored Las Palmas's protests and gave Gaspar Flores a yellow card for diving instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 8-0.

The wind increased when Antonio Berbiz made the kick off in the second half. Antonio Berbiz scored 9-0 in the 57th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fabricio Bitxintxo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 59th minute, Antonio Berbiz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Las Palmas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 10-0. Fabricio Bitxintxo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 13-0. Fabricio Bitxintxo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Damaso Sotil in the 79th minute of play. In the 83rd minute Gaspar Flores shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabricio Bitxintxo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fabricio Bitxintxo came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by Las Palmas's Froilan Quinito. But to his dismay, Froilan Quinito quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 15-0. Fabricio Bitxintxo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Froilan Quinito, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. Fabricio Bitxintxo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Damaso Sotil, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 98th minute Antonio Berbiz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabricio Bitxintxo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Las Palmas fully deserved thier win.
