When David Medley fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mayo's protests and gave David Medley a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Mayo getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. David Medley hit a great ball. Ross Partridge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sven Seitse, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. In the 24th match minute, FC Dundee was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kim Bergsten to maneuver through the defense. In the 30th minute of the match, Rick Hochinskiy got a very nice opportunity to score, but Tom Are was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ross Partridge showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arno Luuk, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Ross Partridge made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pogi Hanson in the 35th minute of play. Mayo's Felipe Ourente suffered a sprained foot after 43 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rick Hochinskiy stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 57 minutes, Johnnie Osbourn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mayo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Johnnie Osbourn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Mayo's Johnnie Osbourn got a free kick in the 58th minute. FC Dundee's Tom Are played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rick Hochinskiy in the 65th minute of play. Tom Are showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rick Hochinskiy, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. A hard shot 74 in the game by Arno Luuk from a close distance when the talented Ross Partridge managed to make a qualified save. Mayo's players were relieved. Mayo's Ross Partridge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hristo Botev in the 76th minute of play. Nick Coates kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. Arno Luuk's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ross Partridge read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. In the 87th match minute, FC Dundee was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hristo Botev to maneuver through the defense. Tom Are took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Johnnie Osbourn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tom Are showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rick Hochinskiy, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Mayo's Daryl Hammett suffered a sore thigh after 92 minutes and couldn't finish the game. A collision led to FC Dundee getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Tom Are was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
