An unexpectedly hard shot by Cătălin Geangu in the 16th minute of play forced Italia's goalkeeper Gilberto Arias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nechifor Zbuchea was out of position in the 17 minute of play, and Fabian Gipuzkoa capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. The long shot by Fabian Gipuzkoa in the 45th minute really tested Nechifor Zbuchea's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pompiliu Moromete stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
