The crowd rose to their feet as Chico Sanches kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nemesio De la Sotta. That made the score 1-1 in the 26 minute of play. In the 47th minute Eber Larralde shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mário Meireles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Chico Sanches to strike the kick off in the second half. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
