With 42 minutes on the clock, Lino Ekialde commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After a rather tough play, Estudiantes de América's Lino Ekialde got a free kick in the 43rd minute. On his own Chadwick Hayes managed to get through Estudiantes de América's defense and was going for a shot in the net, but Pascual Acosta lunged to the right and managed in the last second get hold of the ball before it was to late. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half.
