In the 16th minute, Nichifor Barbălată hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Petre Jdeica in the 18th minute of play forced Le Stade Briochin UC's goalkeeper Leonel Baumer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gabriel Beniuc took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joël Laget, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gaël Rats in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gabriel Beniuc saved Steaua Bucuresti from getting behind. If Nichifor Barbălată had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With 32 minutes on the clock, Mounir Bégaud commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 31st minute, one of Le Stade Briochin UC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Le Stade Briochin UC. Leonel Baumer had in the 34thth minute some difficulties stopping Ivan Pășcuțoiu's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. A collision led to Steaua Bucuresti getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Dorin Zdraşcu hit a great ball. Robin Peyraud fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gabriel Beniuc having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Le Stade Briochin UC's Paul-Henri Pierlot got a free kick in the 39th minute. Paul-Henri Pierlot charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Paul-Henri Pierlot the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Steaua Bucuresti booed when Le Stade Briochin UC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paul-Henri Pierlot didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Narcis Silişteanu kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Leonel Baumer. That made the score 2-1 in the 41 minute of play. Leonel Baumer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Narcis Silişteanu in the 44th minute of play. Leonel Baumer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jerry Gane, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

After 55 played minutes Le Stade Briochin UC got a freekick which was hit by Paul-Henri Pierlot. Leonel Baumer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Petre Jdeica in the 56th minute of the match. Omar Cardot blasted a shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gabriel Beniuc having to make a save. Gabriel Beniuc made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ange Lochet in the 61st minute. In the 64th minute, Narcis Silişteanu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Steaua Bucuresti fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Le Stade Briochin UC's Leonel Baumer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Petre Jdeica in the 69th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 82 minutes, Robin Peyraud took a quick shot and it went in 3-2 without a chance for Gabriel Beniuc to make any attempt to save it. 88 minutes into the match, Steaua Bucuresti's goal looked a bit too open when Robin Peyraud came free, but Gabriel Beniuc reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Robin Peyraud came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Le Stade Briochin UC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Robin Peyraud couldn't finish the play. Gabriel Beniuc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robin Peyraud, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. After 95 played minutes Steaua Bucuresti got a freekick which was hit by Sabin Boia. Robin Peyrauds short, quick shot in the 96thth minute got Gabriel Beniuc to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. For all the effort they put into the match, the Le Stade Briochin UC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Steaua Bucuresti.
