Danny Gilespies short, quick shot in the 10thth minute got Gabriel Wischnowsky to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 11th match minute, KFC Uerdingen 05 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rui Costa to maneuver through the defense. When Rangers FC's Angus Howison in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye KFC Uerdingen 05's goalie prevented a goal. Angus Howison's late challenge caught a KFC Uerdingen 05's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Angus Howison helped the player get up and apologised. After 15 played minutes Rangers FC got a freekick which was hit by Angus Howison. 19 minutes into the game, KFC Uerdingen 05's Rui Costa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fergus Fairbairn made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Fergus Fairbairn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ray Schikaneder in the 22nd minute of play. After 24 minutes of play, KFC Uerdingen 05's Rui Costa made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fergus Fairbairn was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 28th match minute, Rangers FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tyler McCraw to maneuver through the defense. Fred Yentür charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fred Yentür the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to KFC Uerdingen 05 getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Fred Yentür hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Danny Gilespie got free with Gabriel Wischnowsky in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Fergus Fairbairn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rui Costa in the 35th minute of play. In the 37th minute John Terry shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fergus Fairbairn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hartwig Engelhardt scored 0-3 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fergus Fairbairn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Fergus Fairbairn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aage Schwabe in the 46th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hartwig Engelhardt to make the kick off. Fergus Fairbairn was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Rui Costa showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 53 minute of play. In the 56th minute, Ray Schikaneder left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The KFC Uerdingen 05 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by John Terry during the 60th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Fergus Fairbairn made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Hartwig Engelhardt sent off a good shot on target. The crowd rose to their feet as Ray Schikaneder kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Fergus Fairbairn. That made the score 0-6 in the 63 minute of play. In the 73rd match minute, Rangers FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bradley Carr to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn got control of the ball when Hartwig Engelhardt tried to sneak it across the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Rui Costa notched a goal, 0-7, to the right of Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn. Fergus Fairbairn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some careless play in the Rangers FC defense, Rui Costa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fergus Fairbairn. The Rangers FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fergus Fairbairn should have stopped the shot. Fergus Fairbairn was a little too slow when Rui Costa got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 81st minute. The score was now 0-9. With a little luck, Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn got control of the ball when Hartwig Engelhardt tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some careless play in the Rangers FC defense, Hartwig Engelhardt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fergus Fairbairn. The Rangers FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fergus Fairbairn should have stopped the shot. When the match was over KFC Uerdingen 05 could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Rangers FC throughout the match.
