After 16 minutes, Luís Fabiano Lago mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Alvi Verde and the Sheriff players grew even worse after the yellow card. Claudinei Carvalho stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dimitris Kapopoulos's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. Claudinei Carvalho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Omiros Kaloumenos in the 29th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Alvi Verde's Carlos Eduardo Ramos got a free kick in the 36th minute. The supporters of Sheriff booed when Alvi Verde was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Basílio Mazza didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an all-out effort, Sheriff's Claudinei Carvalho threw himself towards the right post 39 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Dimitris Kapopoulos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Dino Proença charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dino Proença the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Dino Proença hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. Claudinei Carvalho made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Omiros Kaloumenos sent off a good shot on target. In the 46th match minute, Alvi Verde was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cacá Pirani to maneuver through the defense.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Omiros Kaloumenos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Omiros Kaloumenos in the 53rd minute of play forced Alvi Verde's goalkeeper Claudinei Carvalho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 56 minutes, Dimitris Kapopoulos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sheriff and the Alvi Verde players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 57th minute of the match Luís Fabiano Lago sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Manos Melogiannis skillfully saved the ball. After 58 minutes of play, Sheriff's Dimitris Kapopoulos made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Claudinei Carvalho was left in no man's land by his defense there! Dimitris Kapopoulos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 67 minutes into the game, Sheriff's Omiros Kaloumenos nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Claudinei Carvalho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Takis Miaoulis's late challenge caught a Alvi Verde's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Takis Miaoulis helped the player get up and apologised. In the 70th match minute, Sheriff was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Takis Miaoulis to maneuver through the defense. In the 71st minute of the match Dino Proença shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Manos Melogiannis showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Claudinei Carvalho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dimitris Kapopoulos in the 82nd minute of the match. In the 83rd minute, Omiros Kaloumenos made a precise shot to the right of Claudinei Carvalho. Alvi Verde's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Sheriff fully deserved thier win.
