In the 8th match minute, Resistencia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gregorio Martinez to maneuver through the defense. 13 minutes into the match, R.C. Marseille's Mihail Toader sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gaetano Mathieu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Gaetano Mathieu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cyrille Melon, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Gustave Souchu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugo Bakker, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Freddy Sabin in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gustave Souchu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by Resistencia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Renan Bouzat was slow to take the kick. During this time R.C. Marseille's players had a chance to rest. A well-hit corner resulted in Mihail Toader heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. The corner ended in Renan Bouzat almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Resistencia's Gaetano Mathieu did a great save.
