Eustaquio Belarmo got a throw-in 7 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Desiderio Boniel. In the 28th minute, Desiderio Boniel left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The CD ESPAÑOL fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Stanny Van Wontergem stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlitos Tevez's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. In the 37thth minute of the game Carlitos Tevez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but YR Mechelen's Stanny Van Wontergem was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Elo Orris showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andries Mangelschot in the 40th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in YR Mechelen's zone, Alesandro Del Piero stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stanny Van Wontergem came out of the goal and Alesandro Del Piero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alesandro Del Piero kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, YR Mechelen's Alan Wirinckx got a free kick in the 47th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

CD ESPAÑOL were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after YR Mechelen's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Sixto Urki took the corner. The corner led to CD ESPAÑOL's Desiderio Boniel getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Joop Leemans hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. In the 63rd minute Miguel Van Mechelen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elo Orris saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alesandro Del Piero in the 80th minute of play forced YR Mechelen's goalkeeper Stanny Van Wontergem to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of CD ESPAÑOL booed when YR Mechelen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joop Leemans didn't get a good kick on the ball. 87 minutes had been played when some careless play by YR Mechelen's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Sixto Urki was slow to take the kick. During this time CD ESPAÑOL's players had a chance to rest. After 88 played minutes YR Mechelen got a freekick which was hit by Alan Wirinckx. Elo Orris had great luck who in the 92ndth minute grab hold of the ball when Miguel Van Mechelen from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. YR Mechelen were awarded a corner in the 93th minute after CD ESPAÑOL's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Adolphe De Maerschalckx took the corner. The corner ended in Adolphe De Maerschalckx almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but CD ESPAÑOL's Elo Orris did a great save. After having played for 95 minutes, Alesandro Del Piero managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CD ESPAÑOL's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alesandro Del Piero was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. CD ESPAÑOL had played much better football throughout.
