Sven-Oskar Åhman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Óscar Cordoba having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Matias Bilintx managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting de Gijón's supporters rose to their feet, but Matias Bilintx was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emil Wahlström breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Emil Wahlström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Saturnino Curcio, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Hogans Heroes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonardo Persson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Matias Bilintx in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Emil Wahlström prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner in the 21th minute after Hogans Heroes's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Saturnino Curcio took the corner. At last the ball reached Eustacio Loiola at the corner, ending with a kick to difficult to stop for the goalkeeper of Hogans Heroes. 1-1. 27 minutes into the game, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Emil Wahlström made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. In the 30th match minute, Sporting de Gijón was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Esteban Ekaitz to maneuver through the defense. Sven-Oskar Åhman succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-2 in the 33rd playminute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bright Morningstar got free with Óscar Cordoba in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Óscar Cordoba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 43 minutes into the match, Matias Bilintx notched a goal, 2-3, to the right of Hogans Heroes's Emil Wahlström. Emil Wahlström was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 47th minute of the match, Sven-Oskar Åhman got a very nice opportunity to score, but Óscar Cordoba was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matias Bilintx to make the kick off. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Harry Forssell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Charles Gregersson during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 53 played minutes Hogans Heroes got a freekick which was hit by Charles Gregersson. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bright Morningstar in the 55th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. Emil Wahlström dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. If Matias Bilintx had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Mario Zanabria replaced Saturnino Curcio. Hogans Heroes's Emil Wahlström proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save Hogans Heroes from getting a goal against them. In the 73rd minute Tomas Kielstedt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 74th minute, Carlo Crema hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match clock showed 77 minutes, the score became 2-5 when Matias Bilintx sped through Hogans Heroes's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Emil Wahlström. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hogans Heroes's goalkeeper Emil Wahlström, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Emil Wahlström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Maradona in the 90th minute of play. 95 minutes into the match, Hogans Heroes's goalkeeper Emil Wahlström had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Venancio Emesto. The Sporting de Gijón players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
