In the 12th minute Pinki Pied shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matias Bilintx in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vukašin Hadžiđulbić saved Tre Starka from getting behind. In the 20th minute Saturnino Curcio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vukašin Hadžiđulbić saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 20 minutes, Matias Bilintx made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Tre Starka's Vukašin Hadžiđulbić tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 24 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Pinki Pied came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, Tre Starka's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Maradona came free, but Vukašin Hadžiđulbić reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pinki Pied in the 30th minute of play. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pinki Pied in the 32nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pinki Pied in the 33rd minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bennvar Galloway took the ball and in the 44 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Óscar Cordoba. Óscar Cordoba dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bennvar Galloway to make the kick off. A collision led to Tre Starka getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Per-Oskar Ålberg hit a great ball. Vukašin Hadžiđulbić showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diego Maradona in the 55th minute of the match. 56 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Pinki Pied came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Esteban Ekaitz fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sporting de Gijón's protests and gave Esteban Ekaitz a yellow card for diving instead. In the 60th minute, Esteban Ekaitz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Venancio Emesto replaced Alejandro Rufo. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Esteban Ekaitz got a free kick in the 62nd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gijón's zone, Pinki Pied stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Óscar Cordoba came out of the goal and Pinki Pied tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Matias Bilintx got free with Vukašin Hadžiđulbić in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Pinki Pied might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Óscar Cordoba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pinki Pied ran back to his position shaking his head. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Atilano Feo replaced Carlo Crema. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Tre Starka was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bennvar Galloway didn't get a good kick on the ball. 95 minutes into the game, Mario Zanabria lined in a short shot 1-2 behind a frustrated Vukašin Hadžiđulbić. The Sporting de Gijón supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Sporting de Gijón would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
