Remigio Valerón didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Fernanco Peso went, in the 7th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Jon Iruegas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jakes Vila in the 10th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fernanco Peso in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Remigio Valerón saved ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO from getting behind. In the 17th minute, Fernanco Peso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Remigio Valerón was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Fernanco Peso scored 0-3 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Remigio Valerón, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laerte Favoretto in the 25th minute of play. But to his dismay, Fernanco Peso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. 37 minutes into the match, Sporting Cristal's goal looked a bit too open when Laerte Favoretto came free, but Jon Iruegas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jon Iruegas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laerte Favoretto in the 37th minute of play. When Laerte Favoretto came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Laerte Favoretto couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Sporting Cristal getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Cazimir Gogea hit a great ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jakes Vila stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rubén Flores during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 52nd minute, Rubén Flores hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Filomeno Camaño hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. After 54 played minutes, Sporting Cristal's Gertjan De Ryck shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Remigio Valerón came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sporting Cristal reached it. Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laerte Favoretto in the 58th minute of play. 62 minutes had been played when some careless play by ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gertjan De Ryck was slow to take the kick. During this time Sporting Cristal's players had a chance to rest. After 70 played minutes ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO got a freekick which was hit by Amadeo Lara. Sporting Cristal made a substitution. Christian Luciano replaced Fernanco Peso. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's Guido Escobar was substituted for Jakes Vila. After 71 played minutes ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO got a freekick which was hit by Amadeo Lara. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amadeo Lara in the 78th minute of play forced Sporting Cristal's goalkeeper Jon Iruegas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Rubén Flores was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 79 minutes had been played. In the 79th minute, Rubén Flores hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's Julio Alacuart was substituted for Amadeo Lara. The supporters of Sporting Cristal booed when ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rubén Flores didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Christian Luciano in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Remigio Valerón prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Sporting Cristal's Llorienzo Buenaga got a free kick in the 82nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Filomeno Camaño managed to get in a good position for a shot. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's supporters rose to their feet, but Filomeno Camaño was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jon Iruegas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Filomeno Camaño received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Jon Iruegas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 88th minute, Christian Luciano made a precise shot to the right of Remigio Valerón. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-5. Christian Luciano struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Remigio Valerón didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting Cristal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Christian Luciano got free with Remigio Valerón in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Remigio Valerón made a fantastic save in the 97th minute, when Christian Luciano sent off a good shot on target.
