After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Martín Palermo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Metal Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Martín Palermo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paul Heyckendorf breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Francisco Nesor took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alex Mansilha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The excitement rose when Academica Pulheim's Alex Mansilha after 48 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for Metal Juniors's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 0-2. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
