To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 12th minute Camilo Caetano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valeri Zabelin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A.D. Imperial's José Maria Pena got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Valeri Zabelin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Franco Milazzo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A.D. Imperial's Valeri Zabelin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save A.D. Imperial from getting a goal against them. When the match clock showed 25 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Franco Milazzo sped through A.D. Imperial's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Valeri Zabelin. 28 minutes into the match, A.D. Imperial's goal looked a bit too open when Franco Milazzo came free, but Valeri Zabelin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Valeri Zabelin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Franco Milazzo, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 35th minute, Franco Milazzo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Valeri Zabelin was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Alexander Smith might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hendrik Kramer. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alexander Smith ran back to his position shaking his head. 47 minutes into the match, Franco Milazzo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Valeri Zabelin. A.D. Imperial's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Franco Milazzo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Franco Milazzo to make the kick off.
