When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Erik Véber put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Alfredo Aguilar. Nelson Haedo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Generoso Beloki read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. A collision led to Vodka Stars 1949 getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Edmundo London hit a great ball. In the 23rd minute Luís Fernando Duarte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Generoso Beloki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 38th minute, Nelson Haedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alfredo Aguilar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erik Véber in the 39th minute of play. Alfredo Aguilar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Curcio Alonso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

Nelson Haedo struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Generoso Beloki didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Olimpia. Club Olimpia's Alfredo Aguilar proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 58th minute of the match, managed to save Club Olimpia from getting a goal against them. In the 62nd minute Nelson Haedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Generoso Beloki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelson Haedo in the 83rd minute of play forced Vodka Stars 1949's goalkeeper Generoso Beloki to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alfredo Aguilar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paul Geeraerts in the 87th minute of the match. After 88 played minutes Vodka Stars 1949 got a freekick which was hit by Edmundo London. The audience was convinced that Roque Gora's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Generoso Beloki was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. 90 minutes into the match, Vodka Stars 1949's goal looked a bit too open when Nelson Haedo came free, but Generoso Beloki reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 95thth minute of the game Nelson Haedo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vodka Stars 1949's Generoso Beloki was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.
