In the 5th match minute, Katowice i Kluczbork was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juliusz Oryniak to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alptuğ Behram got free with Arkadiusz Smolarek in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arkadiusz Smolarek showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Başaran Tuncay, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. After having played for 27 minutes, Adelino Bastos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Katowice i Kluczbork's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adelino Bastos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Yalçın Erensoy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roland Laureys, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Arkadiusz Smolarek showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kenny N'Diaye in the 31st minute of the match. Yalçın Erensoy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roland Laureys, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Jaszcz in the 35th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Yalçın Erensoy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 36 minutes, Arkadiusz Smolarek successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After a rather tough play, Newells Old Boys's Alptuğ Behram got a free kick in the 38th minute. 46 minutes into the match, Katowice i Kluczbork's goal looked a bit too open when Kenny N'Diaye came free, but Arkadiusz Smolarek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Kenny N'Diaye made a kick off. In the 55th minute Adelino Bastos suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. 55 minutes into the game, Osman Ali Sağlam was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Newells Old Boys's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Katowice i Kluczbork the free kick. After 55 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Osman Ali Sağlam. Katowice i Kluczbork's Bogdan Gabis was substituted for Juliusz Oryniak. The supporters of Katowice i Kluczbork booed when Newells Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Osman Ali Sağlam didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 60 played minutes, Newells Old Boys's Başaran Tuncay shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Arkadiusz Smolarek came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Newells Old Boys reached it. Arkadiusz Smolarek took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kenny N'Diaye, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Newells Old Boys's Yalçın Erensoy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dimo Toresano in the 63rd minute of play. Çetin Elçibey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arkadiusz Smolarek having to interfere. 79 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Yalçın Erensoy had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Roland Laureys. 81 minutes into the match, Roland Laureys dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Yalçın Erensoy, 0-3. After having played for 86 minutes, Başaran Tuncay managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newells Old Boys's supporters crossed their fingers, but Başaran Tuncay was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Katowice i Kluczbork's Arkadiusz Smolarek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kenny N'Diaye in the 88th minute of play. 89 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Ryszard Murdza came free, but Yalçın Erensoy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Alptuğ Behram hit a great ball. The Katowice i Kluczbork supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Katowice i Kluczbork would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
