In the 7th minute Luciano Leão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arthur Bufi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to REAL VASCO RIO getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Sydney Mazza hit a great ball. Oswaldo Maranhense struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Percival Prestes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. An unexpectedly hard shot by 余永川 in the 18th minute of play forced REAL VASCO RIO's goalkeeper Percival Prestes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ricardo Cosme's late challenge caught a Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ricardo Cosme helped the player get up and apologised. Percival Prestes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 余永川, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. If 余永川 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Arthur Bufi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luciano Leão in the 36th minute of play. After some careless play in the REAL VASCO RIO defense, 余永川 kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Percival Prestes. The REAL VASCO RIO fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Percival Prestes should have stopped the shot. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind REAL VASCO RIO's goalkeeper Percival Prestes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. REAL VASCO RIO's Percival Prestes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by 余永川 in the 46th minute of play. In the 48th minute, 余永川 left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gwidon Cwojdak stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Percival Prestes made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when 余永川 sent off a good shot on target. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Olavo Quadros was substituted for Enrique de Mendonça. The supporters of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube booed when REAL VASCO RIO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricardo Cosme didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cristi Saron might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Percival Prestes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristi Saron ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, 余永川 managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but 余永川 was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Percival Prestes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Percival Prestes was a little too slow when Gwidon Cwojdak got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 92nd minute. The score was now 0-7. When the match was over Cruzeiro Esporte Clube could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than REAL VASCO RIO throughout the match.
