Arnaldo Basajaun could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Gerard Swee made a huge save. Gerard Swee made an important save on a dangerous shot by Arnaldo Basajaun in the 22nd minute. After 46 played minutes CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE got a freekick which was hit by Gösta Andreasson. After the first half Panathinaikos were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vahdet Olgun was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arnaldo Basajaun in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gerard Swee prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 53 minutes into the match, Panathinaikos's goal looked a bit too open when Arnaldo Basajaun came free, but Gerard Swee reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Panathinaikos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gerard Swee should have stopped the shot. CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE made a substitution. Henrique Meireles replaced Arnaldo Basajaun. CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE's Radu Dascălu was substituted for Evandro Senna. Gerard Swee made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vitório Barbosa in the 94th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Trigo in the 95th minute of play forced Panathinaikos's goalkeeper Gerard Swee to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Vitório Barbosa in the 97th minute. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE fans cheered their team off the field, for while Panathinaikos had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
